FUTURE FREIGHT AND LOGISTICS SURVEY

Research Interests: 

Travel behavior and policy, the interaction between urban spatial structure and transportation, mobility on demand, various impacts of the autonomous vehicle, and innovative future mobility sensing (passenger and freight)

Bio: 

Dr. Jinping (Jenna) Guan is a postdoctoral associate at the ITS Lab, MIT. Before joining ITS Lab, she was a postdoc at AgeLab, Center for Transportation and Logistics, MIT and a research scientist at Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. She has a joint training PhD from Tongji University, China and University of California, Berkeley, majoring in transportation planning and management. Her bachelor’s degree is from Sun Yat-Sen University, majoring in economic geography and urban-rural and regional planning.

Dr. Guan has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers, including in the Transportation Research Part A: Policy and Practice; Computers in Human Behavior; Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board; etc. And she has published a book named “System Development Practice of Transportation Big Data and Cloud Platform in the Period of New-Style Urbanization, Case in Shenzhen, China”.

Dr. Guan works extensively with leading organizations translating insights in travel behavior and decision-making into innovation in practice. Selected organizations include McKinsey, Genvict, Transform (non-profit), China Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Shanghai City Comprehensive Transportation Planning Institute, Shenzhen Urban Planning and Development Research Center, Shenzhen Urban Transport Planning Center and Bureau of Planning, Land and Resources of Shenzhen Municipality, AARP, USDOT, and FHWA.

Awards: 

Dr. Guan is the recipient of several national-level outstanding awards, including: Huaxia Development Science and Technology Award, 1st Prize, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, PRC; National Urban-Planning Major Social-Practice Report Competition, 2nd Prize; Graduate Student National Scholarship, Ministry of Education, PRC; Science and Technology Award, China Intelligent Transportation Systems Association; Excellent Paper at 11th Chinese ITS Conference; and MIT Staff Award for Excellence in Diversity & Inclusion.
